Founded in 1964, John Jay College of Criminal Justice is a senior college in the City University of New York (CUNY), the largest urban university system in the world. The College community of over 15,000 students—undergraduate and graduate—is one of the most diverse multicultural colleges in New York City. We are a federally-designated Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) and a significant number of our students are DACA recipients, first-generation college-goers or from other historically underrepresented groups. Our student population is 44% Hispanic; 21% White; 20% African-American; and 12% Asian/Pacific Islander.
In the last five years, John Jay has been recognized as a national leader in a number of key areas. We rank in the top 10 of institutions for promoting student social mobility. We are a top five institution for Black student success and a top 10 institution for minority applicants to law school. We have one of the largest veteran populations in the Greater NYC area and have been recognized as one of the best colleges for veterans by College Choice. Last fall, John Jay was named the first My Brother’s Keeper Institution of Higher Education in the country.
