The CUNY SPH Foundation is an independent 501c3 nonprofit organization. Its mission is to advance the achievement of CUNY SPH’s mission, vision and values through fundraising, building strategic partnerships and providing services as a champion for the school’s students as they embark on public health careers and for its faculty as they work to educate the next generation of public health professionals. The Foundation has experienced over 1,000% growth since inception in 2017, and has raised over $4 million in the last three years with considerable year-over-year growth.

To support the continued growth and aggressive goals, CUNY SPH is seeking a Development Manager (DM) who will report directly to the Executive Director of the CUNY SPH Foundation. The DM leads the ongoing refinement and management of the business and fundraising operations within the Development Office and of the CUNY SPH Foundation. The DM will oversee all processes, systems and compliance-related matters affecting the department and the Foundation. The DM will have a sharp attention to detail, understand systems management, and will act as a primary representative internally with faculty and staff, and with external partners on funding and grant-related matters.

In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, the duties will include:

  • Develop and implement the annual fundraising campaigns, including an alumni speaker’s bureau and fundraising committee.
  • Lead in the production, promotion and hosting of any donor stewardship activities, as appropriate.
  • Oversee the creation, optimization and implementation of processes related to grants management utilizing Salesforce and any other systems required.
  • Coordinate the review of all grant proposals, budgets and reports before submission to funders.
  • Act as a liaison to the school’s Office of Business and Finance Operations and Chief Operating Officer, as needed, and the school’s Student Resiliency Fund Committee.
  • Work with the Executive Director to review expenses, bank statements and fundraising progress.
  • Act as a liaison to counsel, accountants, auditors and CUNY Central’s Office of Advancement, as well as the Board’s Audit Committee and Finance & Investment Committee.
  • Support the creation and refinement of policies, requests for proposals and contracts.
  • In partnership with the CUNY Central Office, monitor CUNY and New York State policy to ensure full compliance with all regulations and be aware of any forthcoming regulations
  • Provide support to CUNY SPH Foundation Board including preparation of meeting materials, recording minutes and engaging with committee chairs to ensure that effective meetings are conducted.
  • Produce and record high quality prospect research profiles for funder and board candidates.


Bachelor’s degree and six years’ related experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and experience in fundraising and philanthropy.
  • Experience working in a higher education or public health setting.
  • Knowledge and experience in public health and related non-profit sector
  • Experience with donor-focused databases.
  • Prior experience soliciting donations or operating annual campaigns
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint required.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Candidate must be flexible/skilled at multi-tasking, able to work well under pressure, mission driven, detail-oriented, and able to communicate complex issues clearly and concisely.
  • A proven ability to self-motivate and work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work evening hours, as required.

-Plans and manages College fundraising strategy and operations.

- Implements and monitors comprehensive resource development program; makes recommendations to improve department policies and procedures

- Fulfills specific goals and targets based on individual portfolio

- Assists Director with developing funding strategies and assessing outcomes

- Oversees annual and/or major gift activities to support strategic plan

- Maintains relationships with donors and sponsoring organizations to cultivate and maintain funding

- Prepares financial reports for management; may write grant proposals

- May manage professional and/or clerical staff

- Performs related duties as assigned.


Salary commensurate with education and experience up to $77,635 per annum.
